My cousin- Mr. Smith from the Honeoye Falls GM research facility came in to speak to the Applied Science, AP Chem and Earth Science- morning classes yesterday, here are some pictures. Awesome job.

Earthquake seismograms, triangulation and compass use.

We are beginning to look at the actual readings of earthquakes and what that tells scientists-(that's us) We will also be using the newer style of compass- sorry no more sharp metal points like your parents and I used in school. -View a seismogram of the Japan earthquake- here

Earthquake Form and structure

The time has come. We will be studying the ways that earthquakes occur. The structure behind them and reading  the seismograms to determine origin time and epicenter. if you want to re-watch or finish the video: Inside Planet Earth go for it. We have seen-unfortunately- the devastating impact of earthquakes and we remember the dangers of our world. While there are many radical awesome things about the inside of our planet, there is also nothing we can do to prevent events from happening.

Rock Songs due TMRW. We have had a great start. A very nice baby gaga interpretation and excellent video. Also some bieber greatness- the karaoke version of the song so NO bieby singing. The song was very good and nice job singing.

Test FRIDAY- Ch.11 ALL. There will be an identification of rocks and minerals part to the test from our lab activities. One rock, one mineral- 4 minutes total.

Projects and Songs

Hey- keep working- We are working on/finishing the Mineral ID lab today and tmrw.
When you finish, you will be able to use a netbook computer to research/work on your project.
We will have class time on weds. also. DUE THURSDAY- By the BEGINNING OF YOUR CLASS PERIOD. The -20% rule is in effect after that.

Rock songs- We will writing our own rock songs- start thinking about what song you want to use.

Bubba and Rocky were mineral collecting one day and a guy came up to Bubba and asked...How long are you going to be working in that hole?

Bubba said....About 2 hours.

The guy left.

The next Saturday, Bubba and Rocky were at the same dump, and the same man came up to Bubba and asked him how long he was going to be digging in that hole.

Bubba said....About 3 hours.

The guy left.

Well, the next Saturday, the same thing happened, and Bubba said....About 2 hours, and the guy left.

Bubba turned to Rocky and said....Hey, do me a favor and follow that guy, will you? He keeps asking me how long I am going to be digging here, but then leaves and doesn't come back.

Rocky does, and comes back a while later, laughing.

Bubba: So...where does that guy go when he leaves here?

Rocky stops laughing long enough to say....To your house!

Rocks!!!!

We opened the rock case today. Complete with singing angels as the doors opened our minds to the wonders of the terrestrial world. Rocks are the Earth, no rocks, no ground, no world to live on. No soil to create from weathering the rocks, no food to grow in the soil-hydroponics would not work too well for 6+billion people(ex:Disney World cafeteria with hydroponics)

What do rocks do for you? where you live, what you travel in, what you eat, what you wear, what you entertain yourself with(tv's, mp3 players, mobile devices), what you listen to(instruments), what you listen with(headphones), the internet(cable, computers, phones), and millions of other places.

Get ready because here we go.
